These enigmatic reptiles have travelled Earth's tropical seas for more than 100 million years. Like crocodiles, their form and function has remained relatively unchanged over that vast time period, although their size, like all reptiles, has greatly diminished.

Turtles have remained almost unaltered in the fossil record for tens of millions of years. The hatchlings emerge en-masse in what is known as an eruption, timed to confuse predators by a sheer weight of numbers.
