When I travel I miss several things about home; family, friends, surfing, wine and my bike all go without saying. But there are elements to Australia that are inherently spiritual for me. The red ochre of our vast deserts, the tang of the Southern Ocean and the smell of Eucalyptus forests. The mighty Erebus Glacier Tongue flows into the frozen Ross Sea in Antarctica. These impregnable ice walls tower over the landscape and created the Great Barrier to early explorers like Shackleton. I have no evidence to suggest so, but I imagine this natural feature was the inspiration for ‘The Wall’ in Game of Thrones. It is a bitter, tortured landscape so vast and so grand, that anyone who claims to have captured it’s essence is decieving themselves.

A block of clear ice fractured from an Icelandic glacier, travelled down river and into the raging sea. Wind, waves and currents returned it to shore on a black volcanic sand beach where it will be pounded back into it's raw elements, air and water.
